Bob was a lifelong resident of Midland, Texas. Bob and his wife, Marian, moved to Jacksonville in October of 2015 to be near family.
Bob was known as a friend to many because he never met a stranger. He made a lifelong career as Midland's "favorite" car salesman, first at Nickel Chrysler, Plymouth. Bob left the car business briefly to pursue the oil business as a crude purchaser with Brio Petroleum. After the downturn in the petroleum industry in the mid-80s, he went back to what he did best, selling cars.
For the remainder of his career as a car salesman at the same location. Although the dealership names changed over the years, from Friendly Pontiac, Village Dodge, and finally, All American Dodge, his smiling face and service to his customers remained constant. It was a commonly held belief that he sold at least one car to practically everyone in Midland County. He loved his profession of more than 50 years and manufactured his own corner of the car business. He took great pride in the friends he made along the way.
Bob and his brothers spent their childhood in Greenwood where they attended elementary school. Bob was a proud graduate of the Midland High School Class of 1960. Throughout his life, he remained a very proud bulldog and a loyal and avid supporter of anything related to Midland High School.
Bob married his wife, Marian, on September 5, 1976 and they began a journey spanning almost 40 years together. Over the years, they were members of Midland Christian Fellowship, Cornerstone Fellowship, and First Baptist Church of Midland.
Bob is survived by his wife, Marian and their four children: Darren Huggins and wife, Paula Vachon, of Copper Canyon; Shawn Axworthy and husband, Bob, of Bullard; James Daugherty and wife, Karen, of Midland; and Lisa Zachry and husband, Jimmy, of Midland.
They were blessed with six grandchildren, Zachary Huggins, Molly Axworthy, Libby Axworthy, Derek Daugherty, Casey Zachry, and Robyn Zachry Wendel, and by six great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his brothers, Tommy Huggins and wife Barbara, and Charley Huggins and wife Mary of Denton, and by many nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
A memorial celebration of Bob's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2015, at First Baptist Church Chapel of Midland, Texas. Please join us after the memorial service for a dinner reception; the location will be announced at the service.
