

She was born on April 17, 1949, in San Angelo, TX., to the late Enrique and Brunilda (Rodriguez) Garza. She graduated from Central High School (San Angelo) and eventually went on to study elementary education at Midland College and graduated from the University of Texas, Permian Basin in 1983. In addition, she completed requirements for a Master’s degree in Guidance and Counseling. As well as, being state certified in working with special need students and administrator certification (principal).
Brune married USAF Sgt. Ricardo Torres in San Angelo, TX, on July 8,1967 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, and spent her first year of married life as a military wife while Ricardo was assigned to Central Command Headquarters as a military intelligence analyst, linguist and crew member on board an Airborne Reconnaissance aircraft/platform. Their 58 years of marriage was a true testament to their love for each other.
Brune’s twenty-four year career in education included teaching 5th grade at Santa Rita Elementary in Midland for 5 years. She was a Masters level counselor for the remaining 19 years in grade pre k thru 12th grade serving migrant student as well as regular and bilingual education students that needed assistance from a Spanish speaking counselor.
Brune was a family centered person and was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren and believed strongly in modeling ethical behavior with all young people that she was privileged to work with, be in home or in her work environment. She was a loving and caring mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.
Brune is survived by her husband Ricardo of Midland, daughter Brunilda Juracek (Coe) from Dallas, son Carlos Torres (Melissa) from Los Angeles; grandchildren, Afton Juracek from Boston, and Dane Juracek from Dallas; sisters Mary Fernandez, Adelita Morales, and Leticia Sanchez. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Brune was preceded in death by her parents, her son Ricardo Jr., sisters Yolanda Gatzka, Amelia Garza, Raquel Zapata, and Oralia Fernandez and brother Enrique Garza Jr.
Brune was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church Parish for 55 years and participated in numerous Church related activities and taught religious education classes for 15 years. In addition, she participated in numerous church sponsored classes that enhanced her desire to learn about her faith, culminating in earning the title Spiritual Director.
A visitation will be held Sunday, March 22, 2026, from 4-8pm with a Rosary at 7pm at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas at 1pm Monday March 23,2026.
Serving as pallbearers will be Carlos Torres, Diana Munoz, Joe Morales, Coe Juracek, Afton Juracek, and Dane Juracek.
