
A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Crestview Baptist Church in Midland, Texas at 11:00 a.m. with internment to follow at the Mertzon Cemetery in Mertzon, Texas at 5:00 p.m. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, July 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland.
Buster was born on October 2, 1925 in Sherwood, Texas to Grattan D. Davenport and Lottie Stidham. He married Billie M. Taff on July 15, 1946.
He served as a PFC Combat Infantryman in the 63rd Infantry Division in World War II in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre until his discharge in 1946 earning a Bronze Star near Bubingen, Germany.
Following the war, he “cowboyed” for a time with the Bar S Ranch and other operations. Then after training he worked as an auto mechanic the remainder of his working career for Midland Frame & Wheel and then Sears.
Buster attended Crestview Baptist Church from its very beginning. He loved all children and helped in bible classes for children and adults.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sisters, and his dear friend Marge Baker.
He is survived by his son, Mitchell, and wife Karen, of Jacksboro, Texas; his daughter Marsha and husband Mike Mabry, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; three grandsons, two granddaughters, two great-grandsons, four great-granddaughters; dear friends, Steve Baker, Mary Hendricks, Marty Burns, Betty Tucker, and several nieces and nephews
The family suggests that memorials be made in his name to the American Heart Association, the American Diabetes Association, Honor Flight, Crestview Baptist Church of Midland, or the charity of their choice.
