Charlotte Jane Posey Ellis went home to be with her Heavenly Father, at age 86, on June 5, 2013. She was born on July 15th, 1926, to Vance Farish (Jack) Posey, and Jane Hammock Posey in Monticello, Arkansas. She attended Texas Women’s State College (TWU) in Denton, Texas. In the summer of 1946, Charlotte visited her aunt, Beth Roby, in Midland. While Charlotte was working at the Chamber of Commerce, she was introduced to Newnie Ellis by Murray and Celeste Faskin. Charlotte and Newnie married the following year on May 29th at Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Dallas, where Newnie was attending Dallas Mortuary School. They returned to live in Midland in 1948 and had two daughters, Angela (Angie) and Priscilla (Cyd).
Charlotte joined First Presbyterian Church in January of 1948 and held many positions in her time as a devoted church member: Deacon, Elder, officer in Presbyterian Women, Sunday school teacher, church circle, and choir member. She additionally helped establish First Presbyterian Church’s Prayer Closet and was one of the first to volunteer as a “Prayer Warrior.” Charlotte was a long-time member of the Junior League of Midland and attained Sustainer Emeritus status. She served on the Board, holding multiple positions and chairmanships. In addition, Charlotte served on the Midland Symphony Guild Board and Executive Committee. She enjoyed traveling with Newnie, playing tennis in her younger years, spending time with family and friends, puttering in the garden, needlepointing and knitting, doting on her beloved pets, and, of course, dancing across Texas with Newnie. Charlotte is remembered as a mentor to many, in the church, the Junior League, the grocery store, and wherever else life took her.
