C. C. Tull went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 16, 2013 in Midland, Texas. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Stonegate Fellowship Church with Patrick Payton officiating and service arrangements under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
C. C. was born on May 25, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas to Conrad Charles and Evelyn Tull.
He grew up in Midland and graduated from Midland High School in 1948. He attended Schreiner Institute in Kerrville, Texas and Sul Ross University in Alpine, Texas. C. C. served with the 822nd Engineer Aviation Battalion during the Korean War. He married his High School sweetheart, Betty McCain and they were married 59 years and one week.
C. C. accepted Christ when he was 12 years old and was a member of First Baptist Church. He later joined Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he managed Tull Drug. C.C. then went on to own and operate Tull’s Grocery. C. C. sold Tull’s Grocery in 1986 and became a partner in Stevens & Tull, Inc., with his son, Doug and close family friend, Bob Stevens.
He enjoyed the challenge of the oil business but his real passion was being the “tractor man” for Rock the Desert Ministries. He loved donating his time to the ministry by keeping the grounds of the festival field in great shape.
C. C. was a loving husband, brother, father and grandfather. He was thought by all to be one of the most trustworthy, honest and kind-hearted men. Tull’s Grocery was part of many young lives in Midland. “It was as important to the LHS kids as, ‘Hanks’ was to the MHS kids. He will be remembered by many with fond memories” as quoted by a family friend.
C. C. was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Betty McCain Tull; and sister, Patsy Tull Pederson; brother-in-law, James McCain and his wife, Clarice McCain; his daughter, Candice Tull McPherren and son Douglas Ashley Tull and wife, Marcy Butts Tull. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Ashley McPherren, Miles McPherren and wife, Katie Ivanhoe McPherren, Allison Tull, Michelle Tull, Carly Tull and Sara Tull.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Stevens, Jim Walton, Frank Shepherd, Bert Conly, Jack James, Russ Robken, Jim Shaw and Ervin Baumann.
The Tull Family will receive guests at the home of Betty Tull, 4700 Greentree Blvd. on Sunday, January 20, from 4:00 – 5:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Rock the Desert Ministries, P.O. Box 61377 Midland, Texas 79711.
The Family wishes to honor C. C. and carry on his legacy by naming their newly acquired ranch after him. It will be called the “Double C Ranch” and is located outside of Colorado City, Texas. The Family would like to thank Greentree Country Club for their prayers, kindness, and support during this time.
