

He was born on December 17, 1940 and was raised in Cross Plains, TX. Dick served his country proudly by joining the U.S. Army. He married Jana Brice in August of 1970, and with her they had two children Brian and Leah.
Dick was a hard worker and a provider for his family. For 12 years he worked for Drillco. Later, he was the owner of a machine shop for 14 years. He loved sports, including golf, tennis, and fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards and dominoes with family and friends.
He will be greatly missed by all.
Dick was preceded in death by his grandmother who raised him, Etta Mae “Ma” Potter, and his parents, Marvin and Edna Coats.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his children, Brian Coats (Nicole) of Katy, and Leah Jumper (Jason) of Midland; his brother Arthur Coats (Navis) of San Antonio, and sister Elaine Keel (Larry) of Grove, OK.; grandchildren Braden and Jaylee Jumper of Midland, and Kiley and Cailyn Coats of Katy. Dick also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews that he loved dearly.
Dick’s wishes were that in lieu of flowers, a college education trust fund be set up for his grandchildren, whom he adored. To donate to this fund, contact Brian Coats.
Family will receive friends on Thursday, March 3, 2011 between the hours of 6-8 p.m. Memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 4, 2011 at First Christian Church.
