She was born to Mart & Ethel Morgan on February 14, 1930, in Vernon, Texas. Lucille is the second child of eight children. When she was a small child, her family moved to Seymore, Texas where she grew up. At the age of 19, Lucille met and married the love of her life John Barker also of Seymour, Texas, moving to Monahans and later Midland, TX where they raised their family.
Lucille was a wonderful house maker being sure to always keep her family happy and fed. Some of her “famous” recipes are Peanut Brittle, Dressing, White Angel Cake?, After raising her own kids, Lucille started volunteering in the church nursery, driving the bus and eventually starting her own day care which, she operated for over 25 years. The family figures she raised at least 1000 + kids during those years which I’m sure all of those kids still remember Mrs. Barker. Lucille loved children and enjoyed working with them (these are her own words). Even after closing the nursery and “retiring”, Lucille continued to raise children, two of them. Again, in her own words….” two children she loved and had a special part of her heart and her a special part of their lives” are Ambree Martinez and Nicholas Venters.
Entertaining was her specialty. Her friends loved to come to her house and play games and of course eat. Her house was definitely the party house. Many times, her friends would stay late, close to midnight playing games, mainly 42 & 80. Lucille was a member of the senior citizens, Belview Baptist Church and a Hospice Volunteer with Friends who care for 28 years after her husband John passed away.
Manual Arellano is officiating services.
