

Gerald Lytle went home to be with his Lord and Savior on September 14, 2010 at his home in the presence of his family. Gerald was born to Vennie and Corbet Lytle on January 24, 1928 in Goree, TX. He attended school in Paint Creek, TX as well as Rule, TX where he graduated in May of 1945. Shortly after graduation he married the love of his life, Johnnie Ray Davis on August 4, 1945. He then joined the military and bravely served in the U. S. Navy. Gerald and Johnnie moved to Midland from Haskell, TX in 1963. At that time he held a variety of jobs, from running a bread route and working for Rexene Chemical, to eventually working for Jack Sherman Chevrolet in the Parts Department for many years before retiring in 1992. After retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, listening to gospel music, spending time with his family, his dogs, and could always be found sitting on his front porch. Gerald was a devout Christian, a member of Second Baptist Church in Midland. He and Johnnie instilled the importance of God in the lives of their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Gerald was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, his son, Sammy Lytle; his grandson, Toby Lytle and three great-grandsons, Mason Dale Worth, Garrett Michael Lytle, and Delton Douglas Lytle. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Johnnie Lytle, his son, Gary Lytle and wife Peggy of Glen Rose, TX; daughter, Charlotte Bruce and husband David of Midland, TX; son, Jeff Lytle and wife Judy of St. George, KS; His grandchildren, John Corbet Lytle, JD and Carrie Lytle, David Brandon Jones, Jennifer and Raymond Roberts, Shauna and Junior Rodriguez, Kelly Worth, Crystal Rowe, Jessica and Kevin Cain, Justin Lytle, John Raymond Lytle and Austin and Christy Harte, as well as twenty-five great-grandkids. He is also survived by his two companion pets, Midget and Duchess, whom he loved dearly. The family has set visitation for Thursday, September 16, 2010 between the hours of 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Ellis Funeral Home in Midland, TX. Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, September 17, 2010 at 11am at Howard Cemetery in Paint Creek, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. The family would like to take the opportunity to thank the wonderful staff at Midland Memorial Hospital and Hospice of Midland for their compassion for not only Gerald but our entire family during this tumultuous time. The family would also like to thank the wonderful physicians that cared for Gerald.
