Glyna was born to William Buchanan and Myrtle Mae Tarver on July 28, 1933, near Morton, Texas. Her humble beginnings started in a tent while the family awaited the construction of their home. As one of eight children in a lively and loving household, she brought joy from the start—though legend has it her older siblings once considered trading Glyna for a brand-new Buick from the local dealership. In later years, they all agreed they got the far better deal with their beloved baby sister.
Upon graduating Abilene high school in 1952 and subsequent secretarial college, Glyna moved to Odessa for employment at a diamond bit company when she met and married Robert Kretzler at First Presbyterian Church in Odessa on August 23, 1957. Together, they embarked on a life rich with adventures, traveling the world, fishing in the serene waters of Colorado, and hosting family and friends at their exotic hunting ranch in the Texas Hill Country. Glyna embodied a servant's heart, overflowing with dedication to her family, friends, and church. She confronted several major health challenges with remarkable dignity and poise, serving as an inspiring role model. Her passion for her grandchildren was boundless, leaving an indelible mark on their lives.
Many may know Glyna through her time with Toms Tree House in the early 1980’s and involvement in many Midland organizations including Santa Rita club, AIMES, PE wives, West Texas region of the antique auto club of America, Permian Basin flyfishing club, former Trinity Presbyterian Church member, Meals on Wheels. and Family Promise of Midland.
Glyna was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Robert Kretzler; her parents; brothers William Lewis Tarver, James Foy Tarver, and Maurice Lynchburg (Chuck) Tarver; and sisters Etta Pauline Strain and Inez Craighead.
