Howard Gregory Cooper, “Greg”, 64, of Midland Texas, passed away on October 18, 2015, from a hard fought battle with cancer. Greg was born in Hobart, Oklahoma on January 1, 1951 to Samuel and Helena Cooper. He graduated from Midland High School in 1969. He was among the first class to attend Midland College. He graduated from New Mexico State. He received his doctorate from Parker Chiropractic College in Dallas.
Greg was a chiropractor and worked as a Geologist, mud man and mud logger. He had recently passed National Board to be a certified physical examiner.
Greg married Susan Hurta on September 2, 1988. They were married for 27 years. They had two children, Trazi and Nick. Greg loved coaching his kids. He coached baseball, softball, basketball, golf and soccer. Many hours of fun were had travelling to, from and during games. He was never just a “coach”. He was also sometimes “dad” and always a friend.
Greg also loved to go to the kid’s band events. From the time the kids were in Junior High learning to play “Louie, Louie”, you could always find Greg dancing to it in the bleachers. He was a wonderful father.
Greg had a passion for running. His favorite thing to do was to grab his dogs and go out to Sibley Nature Center before dawn. Over 30 years he forged and cut his way through the all the mesquites to form all of the walking trails at Sibley. He was also an animal rescuer. He always was bringing lost animals home. He would try to find owners but sometimes they became beloved family members. His furry family members miss him like crazy.
Greg was an avid golfer come rain or shine. He, Susan and children played many hours of golf together. He also loved his St. Louis Cardinals and let’s not forget Boomer Sooner.
