

H. A. “Peck” Hale, 90, went to be with the Lord in the early morning on August 14, 2010. Peck was born on the Burns Ranch to R.A. and Thelma Estelle Hale on February 26, 1920 in Mitchell County. His childhood was spent moving around West Texas following work on ranches. Peck permanently moved to Midland in 1936 beginning friendships that lasted until his death. It was in Midland that he met and married Maurine McGuire in 1940, they would have been married 70 years this past August 3rd. After honorable discharge from the Air Force, Peck worked for Standard Oil service stations and later for car dealerships in Midland. Most people remember Peck for his almost 30 years at Berg Motor Company. Peck and Maurine helped begin and build Bellview Baptist Church. Peck was on the team of men who built the church in one day so that services could be held in the building the following day. After retirement from the auto industry he kept busy on ranches around Midland with his dear friend Hoot Leonard. Peck was a member of the Masonic Lodge, recently receiving his 50 year pin. Peck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maurine; brother, John Thomas Hale; sister, Ruby Hughes, and daughter, Judy Cooper. He is survived by two brothers, Leroy Hale of Llano, Texas and F.B. “Top” Hale and wife Jo of Midland; two sons, Tommy and wife Maxine of Forney, Texas, Mike and wife Sandy of Midland; four grandchildren, Kathy Firkins and husband Justin of Midland, Elizabeth Maxwell and husband John of Spring, Texas, Karen Evans and husband Chris of Midland, John Michael Hale and wife Suzanne, also of Midland; Peck had eight great-grandchildren to whom he adored in addition to nieces and nephews and hundreds of friends. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Tuesday, August 17, 2010 between 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Bellview Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
