

Jay graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in Kansas City, KS and graduated from the University of Kansas in 1956 with a degree in Petroleum Engineer, member of Beta Theta Phi. Jay was as an Eagle Scout and also served 4 years in the US Navy as a helicopter pilot, assigned to Norfolk, VA where he met and married his wife Edith on November 20, 1960. Their marriage gave them four children: Ron, Jay Jr., Claire and Ellen. They moved to Texas arriving in Midland in July 1961 where Jay worked for ARCO for 20 years. He then worked for Sage Energy as Vice president for 18 years, retiring in 1998. Jay was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Jay was a member of the Gideons and Lions Club, Deacon and Sunday School Teacher at First Baptist Church of Midland, volunteer at Baptist Crisis Center, mentor students at Sam Houston Elementary School, and also a docent at CAF guiding tours. He also enjoyed playing handball at the YMCA, sailing at Moss Creek Lake in Big Spring, TX and camping in Ft. Davis, TX.
Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by parents Ronald G. and Clarissa E. Hardy and son Ronald Hardy.
Left to cherish his memory are Edith, wife of 51 years, son Jay Jr. and his wife Carrie, daughters, Claire and husband Doug Morse, and Ellen and her husband Dr. Mark McKinnon and their 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; his brother, Ronald G. Hardy of Missouri, sister- in- law Wynette Hardy of Kansas, and brother- in- law George Consolvo of Virginia, and daughter-in-law Darla DeLozier of Midland.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 6, 2012 at Ellis Funeral Home from 6pm-8p. Funeral service will be held at 1pm, on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Midland. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Condolences may be made at: www.ellisfunerals.com.
