

Leona Lynn Swopes (Nana), 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday October 27, 2016. Leona was born in Bloomington, IL, July 8, 1946, to her loving parents, Richard and Edith Craig.
Leona graduated high school in Wilcox, AZ. On July 4 1964 Leona married Wayman Swopes. Wayman was her soulmate and best friend for 46 years. She was a homemaker, mother and actively involved in the ministry of Greenwood Baptist Church. Leona worked at Midland Memorial Hospital for 23 years. After retirement from MMH she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Leona was preceded in death by her loving husband Wayman, and her loving and caring parents, Richard and Edith.
Leona is survived by her three children, son Stacy Swopes and his wife Terra, daughter Laura Swopes, and son Jason Swopes and his wife Johna. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Chance, Colton, Rachel, Treyman, Ivan, Josh, and Jenna; 3 sisters, Donna Craig of Florida, Linda Thoennes of Illinois, and Leah Craig of Midland, TX. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless dear family friends, all of whom loved her and will miss her greatly, but are assured of God’s promise that we will see her again.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Midland, and the Greenwood Baptist Church Family.
The family will host a visitation this Sunday, October 30th from 2-4 pm at the Greenwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, October 31, 2016 at Greenwood Baptist Church, with interment to follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Midland, Texas.
In lieu of flowers it was Leona’s wish that a donation be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105
Pallbearers will be Johnny Beck, Terry Colley, Colton Pevehouse, Treyman Swopes, Josh Swopes, and Blake Gibson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ivan Swopes, Chance Pevehouse, and Ben Airo.
