L.R. "Mac" McCollum

Mac was born in Lorraine, Texas on March 15, 1927 to Edgar Clinton McCollum and Lessie Pearl Britton McCollum. He graduated from Lorraine High School in 1944. Afterwards, he served in the United States Navy from 1944 to1948. He married his high school sweetheart, Latrice Louise Bassham, on January 4, 1947. They were married 42 years until she preceded him in death.

Mac spent most of his years working in the oil industry. His job took the family to many West Texas towns including Andrews, Snyder, Kermit and Midland. At least forty years were spent as a resident of Midland.

Mac was preceded in death by his wife; both of his parents; one grandson; one great-great granddaughter and one great-great grandson.

He is survived by his three children: Diane DeNoon and husband Joe from Snyder, Texas, Steve McCollum and wife Rhonda from Kerrville, Texas and Teri Glascock and husband Alan from Midland, Texas; brother, Gaylord McCollum and wife Sue from Abilene, Texas; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held with the family at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

The family of L.R. McCollum wishes to thank Dr. Michael Miller for his many years of compassionate care. Many thanks to our Visiting Angel, Billie, the sweet nurses and aides on the seventh floor of Midland Memorial Hospital and our special friends with “Lilies”. We thank Hospice for their compassionate services that enabled us to bring dad home. We have been blessed by you all and have been lifted in prayer daily by our friends, distant relatives and coworkers. This journey would not have been possible without you all.
