

Martha was born in Grinnell, Kansas on April 6, 1933. She was extremely bright graduating at the top of her class as her High School Valedictorian. On April 6, 1953, she married the great love of her life Vern Humphrey at Immaculate Conception Church in her hometown of Grinnell, Kansas followed by an evening of dinner and dancing with their friends and family.
Together Martha and Vern purchased their first home in Pasadena, TX. There they became the proud parents of their son John F. Humphrey. They lived in Pasadena, Fort Worth and finally Midland within Texas. Together as a family they enjoyed trips to Big Bend, Colorado and Fort Davis where they embarked on a variety of adventures. She was a devout parishioner of St. Ann's Catholic Church here in Midland, TX where she was a member of the Altar Society, WOW group, and bridge club. She took great pride in her work as an Executive Secretary at US Steel, Bell Helicopter, Texaco, Bass Enterprises and Texaco again from whom she retired from in 1997. After retirement, Martha volunteered at Hospice of Midland for 22 years as she was impressed by the care they gave Vern. They were wonderful to Mom helping her in the last months of her life.
Vern preceded her in death in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her sisters Katherine, Viola, Mildred and her brother Richard. Martha was the last of her generation within the family.
She was dedicated to her family, enjoyed celebrating the ones she loved with parties full of love, food, laughter, and lots of dancing. She will be forever missed by those left behind, she is survived by her son John Humphrey, daughter-in-law Jean Humphrey, grandson Joshua Humphrey all of Artesia, New Mexico, and granddaughter Katie Humphrey of Albuquerque, NM.
Martha was also close to her many nieces Linda, Susan, Darcy, Karla, Tina and Cindy and her nephew Craig.
The Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm, March 23, 2025, at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. A memorial Mass for will be held Monday, March 24, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. Ann's Catholic Church followed by a graveside committal at Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to be made to Hospice of Midland.
