

Morgan Stewart, age 83, passed away on Monday, October 11, 2010 at Trinity Haven Healthcare Center surrounded by family. Morgan was born on June 21, 1927 in Howland, Texas to George Oscar and Cora Belle Skinner Stewart and was the youngest of 13 children. His family moved to the Midland area in 1930 where they farmed. Upon entering the United States Army in 1946, Morgan served as a Sgt. during the Korean War with the 20th Infantry Regiment. When his service was complete, he returned home and married Thelma Jo Brown on August 6, 1949. The couple had 2 children, Linda Kay and Ronald Morgan. The family was active members of the Calvary Baptist Church for many years. He served in the Midland County Livestock Association and in Midland County 4-H where he encouraged his children to participate in horseshows and numerous other 4-H activities. Morgan was the owner of Stewart Electric, an independent contractor for pole line construction. During this time, he met and employed many of his lifelong friends. He retired from his business after his wife's passing in 1991. The next year, he married his childhood friend, Lauragene Lands Thompson. The two are members of Greenwood Baptist Church. He drank coffee at Nita's for many years and knew everyone at Lori's Diner and IHOP. The Midland Farmer's Co-op was a frequent gathering place for Morgan and his friends. Papaw always had a smile, a story to tell and a can of peanuts nearby. He taught his family how to work hard and love God. He was making others laugh until the very end. He lived his life by taking pride in a job well-done. He is survived by his wife, Laura Stewart, his daughter, Linda Logan and her husband Harold, and his daughter-in-law, Dorothy Stewart, all of Midland; his grandchildren, Stephanie Smith Alsup and husband Mark of Del Rio, Wendy Smith of Midland, Lindsay Stewart Robbins and husband Todd of LaVeta, CO, T. Stewart and wife Andi of Weatherford, Texas, and Bucky Smith and wife Donya of Midland. "Papaw" was blessed with 9 great grandchildren, Kendall, Parker and Campbell Morgan Alsup all of Del Rio, Jalen Smith of Midland, Coby and Cutter Robbins of LaVeta, CO, Trad Stewart of Weatherford and Slayde and Sloane Smith of Midland. He was also survived by one sister, Betty Jo Clegg of Hobbs, NM. Morgan married into a ready-made family of 5 children, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren who loved him dearly. Morgan made friends wherever he went and will be missed by so many. Morgan was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Louie, Waldo, Tommy, Wayne and Harrison, and his sisters, Dixie Tisdale and Sara Ann Dyess. The family would like to thank the staff of Trinity Haven Healthcare Center for the compassionate care they gave Morgan. Each person treated him with dignity and a smiling face. The friendly way in which you attended to him gave our family great comfort. The family will receive friends Wednesday, October 13, 2010 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at the Greenwood Baptist Church, 10909 FM 307 Greenwood, TX with Tommy Richardson officiating.
