

Nell was born in Roxie, Mississippi on October 16, 1933 to the late Reverend Percy Vaughan and Louise Turner Vaughan. She graduated from Carthage High School in Carthage, Mississippi and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Education degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. Nell was married to Bobby Zack Ellis on August 1, 1954; they were married 40 years.
Nell taught 9th grade English at the former Austin Jr. High School in Midland. She enjoyed bowling and tennis and loved to play the piano. She also enjoyed playing games such as bridge, dominos and canasta. She was actively involved at First United Methodist Church where she was a devoted member and sang in the Chancel Choir.
Nell is preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Louise Vaughan; two half brothers, Franklin Vaughan and Featherston Vaughan and her husband Bobby Ellis.
Nell is survived by daughter Melissa Marie Ellis Whipple, Melissa’s husband Keith and their children Zackary Keith and Delaney Marie Violet. She is also survived by her son Robert Vaughan Ellis and his daughters Riley Anne Shapter and Lauren Elizabeth Ellis.
A graveside service will be held in the mausoleum at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland on Monday October 24th at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to The Alzheimer's Association at 4400 N Big Spring St C32, Midland, TX 79705 or to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
