Norberto Gallegos Ochotorena

He was born in Big Spring, Texas on March 28, 1938, to parents Gustavo and Elisa Ochotorena. In 1958 he moved to Midland, Texas, and married the love of his life, Alicia Tarango. Together they built a life in Midland and had six children.

Norberto had a hobby of working on cars which led to his career. He was employed in the automobile industry and was given the nickname “Mike”. In 1972 he opened his own business Mike’s Auto Parts. After many years of serving Midland residents with automobile needs, he retired in 1997. Norberto enjoyed fishing, camping, and boating with his family. He shared his passion with his grandchildren just as he did with his own children. His family and friends will always remember him as an outdoorsman who loved to explore lakes and work on cars.

Norberto was a parishioner of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.

He is survived by his wife, Alicia Tarango, of 65 years, and six children Norberto Ochotorena Jr., Carol Diaz, Rosemary Zarate, Joann Williams, Sylvia Bernal, and Mary Alice Castillo.

His surviving grandchildren are Erica Lyn Woods, Jennifer DiNallo, Elisa Montez, Michael Diaz, OJ Castaneda, Marcus Diaz, Cameron Castaneda, Ashley Zarate, Joshua Bernal, Andrew Bernal, Kara Castillo, Maddy Bernal, many great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Surviving siblings include one brother Gus Ochotorena Jr and a sister Ida Rodriguez.

He is preceded in death by his parents Elisa and Gustavo Ochotorena, and siblings Amelia Torres and Maria Elena Vasquez.

Pallbearers are Michael Diaz, Marcus Diaz, Joshua Bernal, Andrew Bernal, Cameron Castaneda, Noah Castaneda, Aiden Leonard, and Albert Montez.

A visitation for Norberto will be held Monday, November 28, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home, 4616 N Big Spring Street, Midland, Texas 79705. A rosary will occur Monday, November 28, 2022, from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at 4616 N Big Spring Street, Midland, Texas 79705. A funeral mass will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at St Ann's Catholic Church, 1906 W Texas Ave, Midland, Texas 79701. A committal service will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 3:00 PM. A reception will occur Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at 3:30 PM.
