Ray D. Hunt

Ray D. Hunt went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Ray was born on March 2, 1929 in Vernon, Texas to J. A. and Bessie Hunt. He married Joyce Upchurch on July 10, 1949. Ray and Joyce moved to West Texas in the early 1950’s. Ray went to work for Safeway as a market manager and retired after 22 ½ years of service. He then went to work for M-System Foods, followed by Don-Nan Pump and Supply, before fully retiring. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and had a strong passion for his farm animals. Ray was an active member of Valley View Church. He will be missed by many and loved by all. He is preceded in death by his son, Wayne Hunt. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 61 ½ years, Joyce Hunt of Midland; daughters, Phyllis Williamson of Midland; Nelda Briggs and husband Paul of Mesquite, TX; Melinda Brown of Midland and son James Hunt and wife Belinda of Midland; brother, Ulis Hunt of Grandfalls, and Elmer Hunt of Royalty. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. And numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home Friday, January 14, 2011 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Briggs, Justin Williamson, Chad Matlock, Michael Barrett, Taylor Barrett, Jimmy Haile, Chris Matlock, David Williamson. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brandan Hunt and John Ledsinger. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Midland P.O.
