Tamara Jan Cates, 63, of Midland, Texas, passed away February 6, 2026. Born in Snyder, Texas, she spent most of her life in Midland, where she built a life grounded in faith, independence, and love for her family and community.
Tamara was a talented hairdresser and owner of Making Waves Hair Salon in Midland, where she formed lasting friendships with clients who became like family. She was known for her warm smile and unmistakable laugh.
She loved horses and country living and operated a boarding stable on her property for several years. She lived life on her own terms and found joy in nature and the simple things.
She is survived by her son, Taber White of Liberty Hill; grandchildren, Morgan and Jack White; and sister, Carmon Spencer. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Bailey Poyner, and her parents, Joe and Janice Cates.
