Alex Michael Sardinia

Alex Michael Sardinia passed away peacefully on April 11th 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Spencer Martin Sardinia and Mary Clark Sardinia. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, as well as his four children Michael (Kim), Kyle (Anneli), Elyse and Luke, and his granddaughters Evangeline and Noemi. He is also survived by his brother Ted (Nancy) Sardinia, of Charlottle, NC and his sister Michele Sardinia of East Syracuse, NY in addition to many loving nephews, nieces, uncle, aunts and cousins. Alex was born in Corning, NY and raised in Painted Post. He graduated from Corning-Painted Post West High School where he earned varsity letters in Football, Baseball, and Basketball. Alex then attended Ithaca College where studied business administration, and also met his future wife, Carolyn. Alex started his career as an Insurance Claims adjuster in New Jersey, and he and Carolyn spent 24 years raising their family in Hillsborough, NJ. They made life-long friends through Mary, Mother of God Church, CYO Basketball and Little League. A new job opportunity brought them to Midlothian, Virginia in 2010. Alex continued to work in the insurance industry where he built strong relationships and lasting friendships. He had been working for Holborn Corporation since 2017 as Senior Vice President of Claims, where he enjoyed being part of close-knit, supportive team. A strong family bond began early with yearly vacations at Lake George that spanned more than 5 decades and multiple generations. He also enjoyed vacationing with Family at North Myrtle Beach and attending any and all family functions. Alex, his mother Mary, brother Ted and sister Michele continued to celebrate the memory of his father, Spencer, who passed in 1991, by hosting an annual golf tournament. The “Par-Tee Golf Classic” officially ran 15 years and benefitted a High School scholarship fund as well as the Southern Tier Hospice. It was again, most importantly, an opportunity for family and friends to gather together and create lasting memories. Travelling was something he and his wife thoroughly enjoyed, and they were fortunate to attend industry conferences all over the US and Europe. Alex’s love of sports inspired him to coach all four of his children. The moniker of “Coach” followed him throughout his life as he continued to be involved in the lives of his former players. He began following Rutgers Football in the early 2000s and his fandom only increased when his son, Michael attended the University. He became a season ticket holder and even after moving to Virginia, he continued to attend games every fall. The ever-expanding Green Lot tailgate community became his second Family. Alex’s ties to the New York/ New Jersey area extended beyond sports. He loved attending concerts and shows. Everyone who knew him knew his passion for music, specifically Bruce Springsteen. When people would ask how many shows he had attended, he would reply, “This year?” What he enjoyed most was sharing the experiences with friends and family and explaining how 1 + 1 = 3. The family will receive friends from 4:00pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, April 19th 2024 at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel. A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church at 10:00am on Saturday, April 20th 2024. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research, The American Red Cross, or Team LeGrand, an arm of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. The Family would like to thank both the staff of VCU Medical Center as well as all family and friends for their unwavering support and outpouring of love over the last 6 months.
