Allan, or as many people knew him “Lefty," was born on January 25, 1944, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Galen and Dorothy Tarrh. He grew up in the little town of Prairie Creek where he attended school and participated in baseball, basketball and track. He attended Indiana State University and earned a bachelor's degree in history and economics.
It was during these years he met his wife, Frieda Kay Wright, at church. They got married in December 1965 and started life together while he was finishing up his student teaching. After college, Allan's first job was teaching high school in Linton, Indiana. He taught history and also coached the JV basketball team. Allan and Frieda had their first child, Kevin, in April of 1967. A few years later, Allan changed careers and went into management with Montgomery Ward and that required a move back to Terre Haute. In 1970, their youngest son, Jamey, was born. The career change with Montgomery Ward lead to numerous moves within the states of Indiana and Illinois. In 1981, another job change moved Allan and his family to Birmingham, Alabama. They lived there for about 2 ½ years and yet another change in job moved them to Fredericksburg, Virginia, where they lived for 40 years. In late 2023, Allan and Frieda moved to the Richmond area to be close to family.
Before the Lord called him home, he enjoyed being able to spend more time with his family. Throughout his life, Allan's love for the Lord propelled him to teach the bible in his church and in his home. He wanted everyone to hear the gospel and know salvation through Jesus Christ.
Allan enjoyed teaching the Bible, coaching his sons' teams, playing golf, watching football, baseball, basketball & golf, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
