

TUCKER, Augustine Washington, passed away July 10, 2017, at home in Richmond, Va., surrounded by his family. Born at home on November 19, 1926, in Welch, W.Va., he was the youngest of four children born to Eloise Lloyd Beckwith Tucker and John Randolph Tucker. He spent his childhood in Welch until leaving for school at the Sewanee Military Academy. Gus was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of the University of the South and later received a Master’s in Education from the University of Miami. He retired as a teacher for the Richmond Public Schools. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Randolph Tucker and Frank Beckwith Tucker; and his infant son, William Armistead Tucker. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Miles Tucker; daughters, Isabel Lloyd Tucker Wescoat (Clyde) of Copper Harbor, Mich.; Katharine Tucker Preston (Dave) of Stuart, Fla.; sons, Augustine Washington Tucker Jr. (Namiko) of Takamatsu, Japan; John Randolph Tucker (Karen) of Richmond; step-daughters, Holly Walls Grom (Tim) of Westfield, N.J., Dana Walls Rich (Keith) of Richmond; step-son, Michael Warren Walls (Carrie) of Asheville, N.C.; 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his sister, Leacy Tucker Wahlof Wyomissing, Pa.; and numerous friends and family. Gus lived a happy life and will be missed by many who enjoyed playing backgammon, bridge, and Bolivia with him and singing along to all his great old songs. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church, 11300 W. Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va. 23113. Interment will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town, W.Va. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gus‘ memory to St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church, Chesterfield County Young Life, P.O. Box 251, Midlothian, Va. 23221, or to a charity of your choice.
