Bettie Marie Sweet Cook: Wife, Sweetheart, Mother, Grand and Great Grand, friend. We will miss you dearly. Passed from our lives on Sunday Sept. 21, 2014 in Richmond Virginia. Born April 14, 1924, raised and with the exception of extensive travels, lived her entire life in Virginia. She was able to share her life with Julian P. Cook, Sr. for 42 years before his passing in 1988 and with Dr. George W. Raulfs, Jr. for 18 years prior to his death in April of this year. She and husband Julian Powell Cook Sr. lovingly and patiently raised four boys, Julian Powell Cook Jr. (Barbara), Carter Frank Cook, John Dilworth Cook (Stacey) and Thomas Herbert Cook (Terrie). She is survived as well by George W. Raulfs’ children Ann Pospisil and Glenn Raulfs , seven grand children, eight great grand children and three great-great grand children.
Lives filled with laughter, love, guidance and a steadfast faith. After Mr. Cook’s passing, Bettie re-married and embarked on a grand tour of the world with dear friend Dr. George W. Raulfs, Jr. Their varied interests garnered them many friends. With all her travels, one treasured place stood out: Pawley’s Island SC where each year the family would congregate. Mom’s interests included gardening, cooking, bridge, sewing and she practiced them all with gusto. Her kindness, grace and thoughtful nature brought joy to many and she will be sorely missed. The family would like to extend great appreciation to Southerland Place for their loving care this year, and the Gentiva Hospice group for their guidance and compassion in the last few weeks. Her family wishes that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The American Heart Association. Services to be held at a later date. Condolences may be left at woodyfuneralhomehuguenot.com.
