Bruce Hargraves McCloy

Bruce was born on November 20, 1939, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, to Anne Marie McCloy (née Reik) and John Francis McCloy. After graduation from Kilmarnock High School (Virginia) in 1958, he received his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1962 from William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.

After graduation, Bruce worked for Ernst and Ernst as an accountant, before moving on as an Internal Auditor at Robertshaw Controls and then the Virginia Employment Commission.

A long-time member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and the church auditor.

Out of the many titles Bruce held over the course of his life, his favorites were Grandpa, Brucey, Grumpy, and Grumpy-The-Great to his 13 Grandchildren and 1 Great-Granddaughter. He also loved being a Dog-Dad to his Fur-Baby, Darla!

Bruce was predeceased by his mother, Anne Reik McCloy, his father John Francis McCloy, and his first wife, Helen McConnell McCloy.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lowery McCloy; his brother, David Vance McCloy (Jill); his nephew Michael McCloy; his children, Bruce Edward McCloy (Kathlene), John David McCloy (Helen), Anne Tucker Binder (Paul), Amy Tucker Higgins (Shawn), Brandon Reginald Tucker, and Elena V. Tucker; his grandchildren, Elena McCloy, Connor McCloy, Collin McCloy, Duncan McCloy, Jordan Burleson (Emily), Madi Gallahan (Will), Andrew Birmingham, Aaron Tucker, Lucas Parham, Liza Tucker, Sasha Tucker, Losha Tucker, and Evan Tucker; his great-granddaughter, Adelaide Burleson; and mother-in-law Anne Lowery.

Never having met a stranger, Bruce’s loving and giving personality transformed the lives of everyone he met. He had a remarkable ability to connect with people, sharing himself and evoking that same spirit of love in each person he knew. There is so much more that could be said about Bruce, but in the end, he made our world a brighter place!

A visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel, Thursday, June 29, 2023, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113.

A memorial service will be held at Woodland Heights Baptist Church on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 2:00 PM, 611 W. 31st Street, Richmond, VA 23225

Bruce will be buried at Emmaus Baptist Church, Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 4:00 PM, 814 Yorktown Road, Poquoson, VA 23662

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Woodland Heights Baptist Church Endowment Fund, or to The Richmond SPCA.
