

CHARLES H. MULHERIN, JR., LtCol USMC, Retired. Only child of the late Charles and Beatrice Mulherin of Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Vera Stoan Mulherin, his daughter Victoria Zimmer (Wesley), his son Michael (Olga), his stepdaughter Erin Geoghegan, three grandsons (Evan, Hannan and Connor) and one granddaughter (Riley).
He was born in Chicago in 1939 and moved with his parents to Monterey, CA in 1948. He attended Catholic schools, went to Boys State, and was student body president. He attended St. Mary's College in Moraga before joining the Marine Corps in 1959. He graduated from Marquette University in 1963 and was commissioned 2d LT. He did two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded 3 Bronze Stars with Combat V for Valor.
He served as Assistant and Acting Naval Attche in Rabat, Morocco, 1973-1976. He went to the Naval War College, Newport, RI, in 1976, served under Bgen Al Grey, and shifted from infantry to intelligence in 1978. He attended Intelligence School (Distinguished Graduate) and was then assigned to the Fleet Marine Force, Atlantic Headquarters, Norfolk, VA in 1980. He earned a masters degree in Strategic Intelligence provided by the Defense Intelligence Agency. He was honorably discharged in 1983 and took a position as a technical writer for MRJ, Inc., serving with that company in the DC area as a defense contractor until 2001.
He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1999 and served as Grand Knight 2000-2001, Vienna, VA. He has been a member of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church since 2001.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles and TV, Notre Dame and pro football broadcasts.
