BEAUSANG, Cornelius W., physicist and professor at the University of Richmond, and a resident of Midlothian, Virginia, died on June 3, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family and friends during his last days. Dr. Beausang was born and educated in Cork, Ireland, and received his doctorate at SUNY Stony Brook. He was a physics professor at Yale University for eight years. Since 2004, he has taught at the University of Richmond. He became a U.S. citizen in 2010. Friends remember him as a skilled and avid sailor. Dr. Beausang was predeceased by his brother, Sean; and is survived by his wife, Cindy; and his sisters, Siobhan and Aine. His great mind, good cheer, and great Irish wit, will be missed by his colleagues, friends and students. To honor Con’s devotion to his students, the University of Richmond is establishing a fund in his memory to support physics students. Donations can be made to the University of Richmond and designated for the Beausang Memorial Fund. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 8, at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, Va. 23113. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, June 9, in Cannon Memorial Chapel at the University of Richmond. An on-campus reception will follow.
