A picture from one of many fun filled evenings in the Daniels’ garage.  My favorite memory of Dave was him breaking dancing with my son, Ethan,  who was probably in first grade, during a New Year’s Eve celebration.  They were both having tons of fun putting down their slick moves which included spinning on their backs.  The rest of us were having an oodles of fun cheering them on.  It was a true laugh fest!

David,

I was so shocked to hear of your passing. Some of my very earliest childhood memories are hanging out with you, Tracy and Desi, and of course later on, Davey. It was always a good time when y'all came to visit. 

I can only hope that you are at peace now, and that your family and friends can take solace in that knowledge.

Part 2 continued..
The deer never flinched. 
Never looked away. And we knew.
We got out of the cars, looked at the plot, and it was perfect. Serene, peaceful, surrounded by trees and freely roaming deer—everything my brother loved. David loved deer. David loved trees. David loved deeply.
And now, David rests in a place that reflects his spirit.
I hope that each and every one of you who follows us today—or visits Hollywood Cemetery in the future—will feel the everlasting peace and presence of my brother David.

God bless you, sweet David.

My little brother.
The first to make me a big sister—and the first of us to leave this Earth.
I want to paint a picture for all of you—something deeply significant to me, and I hope, something that will hold special meaning for you as well.
I am a firm believer in our connection to the afterlife. I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that our loved ones who pass before us send us signs and messages—if we are open to seeing them.
Last Sunday, as we formed a cocoon of love around David, we each asked him to send us signs. And he did—almost immediately.
The first sign came within minutes of his passing: a rainbow appeared in the sky above Midlothian, near where he lived. Kaila was able to capture a photo of his “rainbow bridge.” Then, in the hours that followed, we saw the heavens open up—and both my girls caught it on camera.
But there’s one connection I want especially to share with you. It’s a beautiful story that will stay in my heart forever.
One of David’s final wishes was to be buried in Hollywood Cemetery—or somewhere close. Hollywood is a place we all love. It’s historic and peaceful, a sacred space that truly feels like it bridges Heaven and Earth.
We had six burial plots to view and three cars in our little caravan. The first plot was very pretty—on a steep hill overlooking the beautiful grounds. We all liked it.
Then we moved to the second site.
As we drove, we passed under a beautiful canopy of trees. Anyone who knows golf will understand the significance of driving into a course through such a canopy—like a sacred tunnel.
We rounded a small bend, and then we saw it.
There, standing quietly, was a majestic deer.
He looked right at us—and held our gaze. Every single one of us saw him. Not one person in our caravan missed it. And in that moment, we all felt it:
It was David.
His eyes spoke volumes. His presence, his stillness, his dignity—it was as if he was saying, “Here I am. This is it.”

Eulogy for David Patrick Daniels

Good afternoon,

My sisters and I are here today to remember and celebrate our brother, David Patrick Daniels — a man rooted in family, defined by quiet strength, and deeply connected to the land he loved.

If you knew David, you saw two things: his love for family and for Mill Quarter Golf Course. Not just the game, but what it stood for: land, tradition, community, and hard work. He might not have been the best golfer, but he was a master at managing the course.

David knew every inch of that 400-acre property. It wasn’t just a golf course — it was his place to hunt, fish, and ride through the woods. A true Virginia outdoorsman, shaped by the land and its rhythm.

He began working the course at age 11, side by side with four generations of our family — grandparents Skip and Ann, parents Dave and Diane, his daughter Desi, nieces Kaila and Kira, and eventually his son, David Lee.

David mentored countless young men in Powhatan, teaching them how to work hard, be respectful, and take pride in what they did. He also cherished working with older retirees, giving them purpose and camaraderie.

He and Tracy built a life together over 34 years — a love story rooted in persistence, laughter, and shared memories. Their daughter Desirae lit up his world. “The Boy,” David Lee, filled him with pride — a living legacy.

To many, he was “Uncle Bacon.” To us, he was the one who could fix anything and taught us how to navigate life with calm, humor, and heart.

Rest easy, David. We’ll carry your memory — and your example — with us always.

It was my honor to preside over David’s funeral service and graveside service. David was a deeply loved man in the community and I felt nothing but that love as we committed him to the Lord. 

He leaves behind a heartbroken family, but I want to remind them to be still and know that God is near to the brokenhearted and they will see David again.

For the past several years I would go to Mill Quarter to hit some Golf balls in the afternoon and David was always very kind to me and I enjoyed our conversations.  My neighbor and I would show up for our 4:00 tee time an hour early and David always told us to play ahead.  I was frustrated with my job and told David about it one day and he said "love to have you work here - when can you start?" I have told folks ever since this would be my retirement job!  Rest in peace David - see you for a round of golf in heaven! ~Rick Davis

I was very sad to hear about David.  I have enjoyed many times with him when playing Mill Quarter over the years.  We even had beers several times at Spinnaker's and Awful  Arthurs.  He was always so friendly and cut me a break on prices when playing with my friend Alan Blunt who volunteers at the course on Thursdays.  My condolences to the entire family.  He will be missed.

David, through my 40+-year close friendship with your sister, starting at Monacan, I was blessed to know you. I’ll always cherish the times we’d visit you at Oakhurst Manor, where you’d greet us with that classic “What are you doing here?” and a grin that lit up the room.

Your passion for fast cars, great sense of humor, and unwavering love for your family were truly special.   I remember dancing at your wedding with Tracy like it was yesterday.

Whenever “Piano Man” by Billy Joel plays, I’ll think of you, smiling.  Rest in peace, dear friend—you were deeply loved and cherished.   Love to the entire Daniels family.

First met David as a freshman in high school, at a party, he gave me a ride home in his corvette. He always loved fast cars and knew how to have a great time. Ended up with a close friends group hanging out for a while. Stayed in touch thru the years, and he was always the same cool guy with a fantastic sense of humor who knew how to put everyone in a good mood. Only seemed to have gotten better with age. I’m so glad he lived a life filled with love from his family, as they were his world. It’s still a tough one, gone too soon. God Bless.

Fireball David.

That’s how we knew him at Wong’s Tacos — the guy who made everyone laugh, made friends out of strangers, and whose presence you felt before he even walked through the door. Whether he was driving that super loud, awesome Mustang or showing up in his beautiful, perfect Cadillac, you knew David had arrived.

He wasn’t just a regular. He was our David. He was my best buddy.

David had a rare kind of spirit — the kind that makes you feel welcome just by being near him. He’d talk to anyone and everyone, and he remembered your name, your story, your drink of choice. He found ways to make people feel seen. Even on a busy night, he made time for conversation, for a laugh, for kindness. He never held back his joy, and never let you leave without at least a smile.

Sure, there were moments he’d say something off-the-cuff that’d make you raise an eyebrow — but that was part of his charm. He was never mean, never cruel. Always curious, always kind. Always just… David. And we loved him for it.

Watching him connect with our staff — especially the younger ones — was something special. He treated them like grandkids, like friends, like people who mattered. And that meant something to all of us.

Losing David feels like losing a piece of Wong’s. That bar stool at the corner will never feel the same. But I promise you this: we’ll keep his seat warm, his laugh alive, and his Fireball poured when we raise a toast to him.

To David — our Fireball regular, our friend, our family. You will never be forgotten. We love you.

Uncle David was one of a kind! He was a great uncle to me, a caring brother to my mom, wonderful son to meemaw & pawpaw, loving husband to Tracy, and the most proud to be Desi & Davey's dad!! All of the memories  - from the beach vacations, to Christmas at Meemaw's & pawpaws -  just having the best family get togethers. We are so lucky to all be such a close family, and you will be missed so much!  I'm forever grateful for all of the memories we have together 🩵 Here's to you uncle bacon! 🥓 energy!!⚡️⚡️

I’d just say that sometimes we are blessed in life. One of my blessings is  David and his fam - Tracey,  Desi “the master of disaster” and Davey.  Selfishly, I’ll miss him. I’ll tell you this though ; He lived his life for his family.  Immediate and extended family at Mill Quarter and beyond.  He was just a guy living his best life and helping folks along the way.  Those who knew him know what I’m talking about.    I’ve had some great memories with him.  God speed you to the promised land brother!   If I make it we’ll chase some deer and slaughter some squirrel's together - with a couple cold ones. Love you  Thank you for being you and God bless. You set the bar high my friend.

Extremely sad to hear David passed away. When I was a rep in the golf business he always had time to see me and purchase products for the shop. It was always fun to grab a beer with him and chat. As his condition worsened he was steadfast in his resolve to beat it. He put up the good fight but God needed him. Thanks Dave for being a friend! Condolences to his great family. Peace.

So many memories with my uncle David but one I wanted to share was that before I learned to drive David went out of his way to drive me back from Mill Quarter. I’ll always remember when he first got the cadillac we listened to “Royals” by Lorde the whole way home! That will always be my song with him! I love you uncle David and miss you so much. Driving cadillacs in our dreams forever

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. David is one of the first people I meet moving to Mill Quarter and I know without his presence Mill Quarter will never be the same! He will truly be missed. May god be with him.

I have always thought of David as a welcoming, funny, and easy going soul. It was clear that his family was everything to him. Sending my deepest condolences to Tracy, Desi, and Davey; and the entire Daniels’ family.  May God give you strength and comfort.

You were always the life of the party and made sure to include everyone ❤️ I’ll never forget family beach trips, wild holiday ding dong ditches, you flipping us over in the hammock until we were laughing so hard we couldn’t breathe,  zapping us with energy or taking us for golf cart rides at the course! Rest easy - I know you’ll be looking out for us down here 🤍

David was always such a thoughtful person.  I remember when we gathered together on Christmas he would always thank me for the birthday card I sent 
him.  Little thing but so thoughtful.  I am going to miss our Christmas Eves.  RIP David.

I'll miss you my friend and brother David Daniels!  My faith tells me I'll see you again in the kingdom of heaven †  I'm praying for the Daniels family through this difficult time.  This is a transitory time, but Christ's kingdom is eternal.  David was more than employer, he was a friend, and he and I spent a lot of good times together.  The Lord Jesus' resurrection (Easter) tells us there is hope far beyond the grave. Amen. "So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?" (1 Cor. 15:54-55 KJV)

Best Boss and best friend ever! Never too high or or to low! Treated everyone with respect and he loved life! MQ will never be the same!

I got to know David when I was stationed in Richmond, and he was always a great person to hang out with. He even took me out to shoot my first deer, on the golf course! He will be greatly missed by all of us who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.
