

She was preceded in death by her parents, Blanche M. and William "Jake" Rowlett Wells, Sr.; her younger brother, William "Billy" Wells, Jr.; and her beloved dog, Trouble.
She is survived by her husband, of 72 years, Nelson L. Batterson; son, Gordon L. Batterson (Nancy); daughter, Rhonda Sanders (Jimmy); six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren; and her siblings, Helen Matthews and Aubrey Wells (Connie).
She was born in Richmond and lived her whole life in Powhatan. She married her high school sweetheart on Valentines Day in 1953. She retired from the DMV after 33 years. She loved the beach and the sun, gardening, cooking, but most of all she loved her family. She treated everyone she met as if they were family. Her graciousness and gentle spirit will be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Thursday, March 6 at Woody Funeral Home - Huguenot Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 7 in the Woody Chapel. Interment will be private at Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org/donate.
