George Stanley Smith

SMITH, George Stanley Sr. 98, WWII Army Sergeant, and retired General Manager from Washington Terminal Company in Washington D.C., passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 6, 2018, in Midlothian, Va. Preceding him were his parents, John H Smith and Frances M. Smith; his brothers, Robert Smith and Edward Smith, and his sister Doris Smith. Also preceding him was his beloved wife Doris Jean Smith, his loving son George Stanley Smith Jr., his beloved brother in- law John Paul Shortt, and his loving sister in-law Alice Walton. Surviving him is his daughter, Paula S. Fox, his son in-law Stephen T. Fox, and his grandson Dylan T. Fox. Also surviving, his brother In-Law Charles Vincent Shortt, sister In-Law Rayma Smith, beloved nephews – Lynn Walton, Tommy Walton, Chris Shortt, Ronald Smith, Dennis Smith, Gary Smith, Stephen Smith, Mark Smith and their families. In addition, he is survived by nieces Betty Ann Thatcher, Sonya Williams, Taryn Smith, Judy Walton, Donna Smith, and their families. Also, George is survived by many loved cousins, great nieces and nephews.

George and his Brother In-Law John Paul Short, “Bud”, shared a special bond over their service in WWII. Both men were survivors on ships in the Sea of Japan, when the war thankfully ended. A major highlight happened several years ago when both Bud and George went with a group from Honor Flight to view the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. He loved his family deeply and felt an immense pride for his family. He will be greatly missed.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday December 15th, 2018 at 2pm at Greenwood Memorial Garden Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel.
