Gilbert Michael Ryan

Gilbert Michael “Mike” Ryan went home peacefully to be with GOD, surrounded by his family on April 4th, 2026.

Mike was born June 11th, in Maryland. A son to Kenneth and Mary Cage Ryan, brother to Patricia Lee, husband to Sandra Ryan and great father to Michael Ryan.

Mike enlisted in the Army in 1957 and served our country until 1960. Soon after meeting and marrying Sandra, they would remain married for 62 years. While working and starting a family, Mike would attend night classes at The University of Maryland.

Later the family was transferred by John H. Hampshire Inc. to Richmond, Virginia. This opportunity gave Mike the chance to start his own businesses of which he successfully operated for 32 years.

Mike enjoyed many hobbies including owning and flying his plane, a Cessna 172, riding motorcycles with friends on the weekends, power boating and shooting sports such as target rifle and skeet shooting. He won many awards and was a two time national “Shooter of the Year” recipient for rifle shooting. He loved traveling to shoots, and shooting skeet at Conservation Park with his many friends.

Mike is survived by his wife Sandra Ryan, son Michael Ryan and Jane Adams, nephew Dennis Marshall (Toni), niece Donna Owen (Robert)

Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home at Huguenot, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian, VA 23113, on Friday April 17th, from 5 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Children’s Hospital Foundation.
