Irene Owens Frondorf peacefully departed this life on Saturday, December 17, at the age of 90. A special love story resumed as our mother was reunited with her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Allen Frondorf.
Irene was born in Ashtabula, Ohio to Thelma and LeRoy Owens. She attended Boardman High School where she was a member of the gymnastics squad, sorority and homecoming/prom queen. After high school, she tried her hand at a Nursing Career. At the age of 21, Irene married her childhood sweetheart, Bob Frondorf on October 3, 1953. One year later, the first of their three children were born. The family made their home in Youngstown, Ohio; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Sharon, Pennsylvania; Fredonia, New York; and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania before settling in Richmond, Virginia in 1970. Upon Bob's retirement they moved to Weems, Virginia where they built their dream home on the river. In 2015 she returned to Richmond to be closer to family.
She loved to garden, paint, play bridge, volunteer and was a gourmet cook. Her gourmet cooking, homemade breakfast rolls, and desserts were enjoyed by her family and many friends. Several of her recipes are still Frondorf family favorites. Her passion in life was to her family.
She is predeceased by her husband, Bob; parents, LeRoy and Thelma; and stepfather, Sol Boych; siblings, Susan, George, Leroy, and Joan; and her grandson, Nathan Williamson.
