

BARRANGER, Jacquelin McClaugherty, 85, of Midlothian, formerly of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, April 28, 2012 following a long illness. She was the widow of Robert D. Barranger and daughter of the late A. P. "Jack" McClaugherty and Doris Mae McBride, of Roanoke. She was predeceased by her son, Kirk and is survived by her children, Gary, his wife, Christi, and Phillip of Richmond and Kathy and her husband, James Smithson of Hanover County, and Randy and his wife, Robin of Shakopee, Minn.; five grandchildren, Patrick and Connor of Richmond, Nicholas, Kipton and Calli of Shakopee; brothers-in-law, Glynn D. Barranger, his wife, Helen and David L. Barranger and his wife, Dee, all of Roanoke.
She graduated from Jefferson High School in Roanoke and attended Longwood College until her marriage. She lived in Blacksburg for two years while her husband completed his degree at VPI and was sponsor of the Roanoke Club of which Mr. Barranger was president. Because of Mr. Barranger's work in the steel industry, they moved from Roanoke to Birmingham, later to Elmira, N.Y., then to Pittsburgh, and finally returned to Roanoke in 1962. She was active in the PTA, a volunteer and area coordinator for the American Cancer Society. She was very active assisting Scout Troop #17, St. John's Episcopal Church where Mr. Barranger was a Scout Master of the largest troop in southwest Virginia. In 1980, she was co-founder of Barranger & Company, Inc. and in 1982 moved to Midlothian. She served as the company bookkeeper for many years and was secretary and treasurer until the time of her death. Mrs. Barranger was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Roanoke, as had been several generations of her family and was a member of numerous Presbyterian churches in various cities, including First Presbyterian Church in Roanoke and Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian. She was an avid reader, world's best cook and loved to travel.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, May 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Huguenot Chapel, 1020 Huguenot Road, where services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. Burial will be Friday, at 3 p.m. at Evergreen Burial Park, Roanoke, Virginia.
