James L. Evers, 62, of Richmond, Va., passed away Sunday morning at Johnston-Willis Medical Center.
He was born on March 11, 1953, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Robert Evers and Effie Knight Evers. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Terrie Diane Evers, and his brother, Charles Warren Evers. James is survived by his brother, Andy Evers and his wife, Henrietta; his former wife, Mary Evers; his daughters, Amanda Evers Yeatts and her husband, Edward; Jessica Evers Neese and her husband, Matthew; his grandchildren James Yeatts, and Ryan and Alaina Neese; his sister-in-law, Lynn Ainsworth Evers; and his nephews Brian Evers and his wife, Lisa, Justin Evers and his wife Ashley, and Jackson Evers and Taylor Saunders. He is also survived by grand-nieces and nephews Bree Evers, Drew Evers, Ally Evers, and William Evers.
James spent the majority of his childhood in Jackson, Mississippi, then he and his family moved to the Falls Church, Virginia, area. He was a graduate of Falls Church High School and also attended Northern Virginia Community College. His professional life included working for Boeing and IBM in Information Technology and IT Sales. James was a recent retiree.
James enjoyed spending time with family and friends and attending live concerts of his favorite bands. He was an avid sports fan with a longstanding devotion to the Washington Redskins, and was a fan of all metropolitan Washington, D.C. sports teams.
Private services will be held at a later date.
