He was preceded in death by his parents, Elise Thompson Matthews and James Edward Matthews Jr. He is survived by his wife of 43 years Bonnie Greame Matthews; daughter Jamie Hamric (Nathan); grandchildren Stella and Owen; brother Warren Matthews (Faye); sister Patricia Bagley; nephew David Matthews (Abby) and a host of beloved family and friends.
After retiring from the State of Virginia, Jim enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, restoring antique cars, and working in his yard.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Woody Funeral Home – Huguenot Chapel.
