Evangelist Jesse Romain Montague, Sr., co-founder of El-SHADDAI Ministries Inc., Richmond, VA. He departed this life April 10, 2024 at Chippenham Hospital at 4:58 p.m., Richmond, VA. Native born of Enfield, NC in Halifax County, July 15, 1935. Son of the late Jesse James Montague and the late Flossie Wills Montague. Grandson of the late Doctor (Dock) P. Montague and the late Dora Wiggins Montague, and the late George Edward and the late Indiana Wills. He was preceded in death by six brothers Maurice, Ira, Charles, Lynwood, Herman and Willie; six sisters Alifare, Isabel, Hattie, Darphil, Arnetia and Dora; and one daughter Lisa Gould. He made confession of faith in Christ and joined Wayman A.M.E. Church as an early age in Enfield, NC. Former member of Cedar Street Baptist Church in Richmond, VA, and Tikvat Israel Messianic Congregation of Richmond, VA. He was educated in the public school system in Halifax County and Eastman High. He joined the United States Army where he served for 2 years. Before and after military service, he worked as a professional Barber at the Post Exchange, Fort Lee, VA for 57 years. He was united in holy matrimony in 1995 to his surviving wife Jean of 28 years. His first marital union of 34 years, three children were born - Alvie, Dana, and Jesse Jr.; along with a devoted daughter, Tranace Fields. Jesse was ordained by the late Apostle Louis Nettles from Griffin, GA of Omnipotent Shepard Full Gospel Deliverance Church in April 2005. Ordained by the late Dr. Owen Johnson of Loris, SC in November 2011. He was an alumni of Pinnacle Maranatha Bible College where he studied Biblical Studies in Yanceyville, NC. He also received his Bachelor of Arts in Divinity from Grace Christian College in Loris, SC, and his MDiv from Grace Theological Seminary in Loris, SC. Jesse was a board licensed Master Barber in the Commonwealth of VA, Board of Barbers and Cosmetology. His ministry gift was singing. His works of ministry was winning souls and installing servants for the Kingdom. He was loved and held in high regards by his family, friends, and customers. He is survived by his wife Apostle Dr. D.J. Montague, three daughters Tranace Fields (Michael) of Phoenix, AZ, Alvie Finney (Clarence) of Haymarket, VA, and Dana Robinson (Trevin) of Richmond, VA; one son Jesse R. Montague Jr. of Medford, OR; two stepsons David L. Jones Jr. (Monique) and Royal J. Jones II (Marta); sixteen grandchildren Brandon, Danielle, Katrina, Clarence III, Lauren, Ayanna, Jasmine, Jamise, Lilli, Noah, Triana, Dylan, Taylor, Jaylen, Julia, and Jianna; twelve great-grandchildren Jaime, Cedric, Cortez, Maya, Christopher, Amiya, Andre, Ashton, Kadynce, Ciana, Azaiah, and Brielle; three sisters Florene Scott of Lincoln, DE, Mariea Flowers (Walter) of Greensboro, NC, and Malinda Holmes (James) of Hampton, VA; five sister-in-laws and eight brother-in-laws Linda Jennings (Harold), Celia McCoy (Clyde), Annette Logan (Tim), Arthur Wright, Myrtle Montague, Daniel H. McLaughlin Jr. (Matilda), and Dennis McLaughlin; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives, including a special friend of the family Bitha Finney.
