

John Bacon Flinn of Midlothian passed away at home on February 14, 2017 after a long illness. Son of the late Claiborne Goodrich and Lois Greene Flinn, he was born in New York City on July 17, 1938. He lived in Jackson Heights, Queens until 1950 when the family moved to Chatham, New Jersey. A graduate of Chatham High School in 1956, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served in Lebanon in 1958 and rose to the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge. He worked in the FBI ballistics lab in Washington, DC prior to joining the Virginia State Police in 1960. He worked briefly for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and retired from Virginia State Police in 2008.
He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 37 years Barbara Moore Flinn. He was a dedicated father to his son Matthew Flinn of Arlington, VA; daughter Ali Flinn of Richmond, VA; daughter Marcia Wilkes (Paul) of Crozet, VA; son Johnny Flinn of Portland, OR; daughter Donna Temple (Bill) of Mount Pleasant S.C.; daughter Debbie Spears (Bob) of Virginia Beach, VA. John is predeceased by sister Virginia (Gigi) Flinn and is survived by his brothers, Richard Flinn (Stella) of Providence, RI and George Flinn (Kitty) of Kansas City, KS and grandchildren Kaileigh Dilks, William Wilkes and Sarah Wilkes and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 20th, at 11 a.m., at the Woody Funeral Home - Huguenot Chapel at 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Virginia Commonwealth University – Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Center.
