

John Hayden Little, 71, former U.S. Navy Ensign, sales representative, builder, and real estate broker, died on March 4, 2015. He was born in Salisbury, N.C. on September 7, 1943, the son of John Yount and Mary Neile Little of Conover, N.C. He graduated from Catawba College, class of 1965, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. He attended the U.S. Naval Officers Candidate School, in Newport, Rhode Island. He was commissioned in 1965 as Ensign in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He graduated from the Naval Justice School in 1966. He served on the Iwo Jima and two years with the River Marine Force on the Mekong River in Vietnam. (1966-1968). He was a sales representative with Wohl Shoe Company in St. Louis Missouri from 1969-1976, covering West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina. After his marriage to Sue Johnson Little of Clinton, NC in 1973, he and Sue moved to Midlothian, Virginia. In 1976, he became a real estate broker with W.S. Pinchbeck. He received many awards throughout his career, such as the outstanding leadership award as chairman of the 1993 Sales Marketing Council of the Executive Committee of Home Builders Association of Richmond, Virginia. He continued his career while working in real estate with C. Porter Vaughan and Long and Foster. He was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where he served as an usher.
John was preceded in death by his parents John Yount and Mary Neile Little. Survivors include his wife, Sue Johnson Little; son, John Burke Little; daughter, Sueann Garner Little; sister, Mary Ruth DeForest and husband Dean DeForest; brother, Milton Daniel Little and wife Sherri Stafford; Aunt Jane Pearse; sister-in-law, Ann Holland and husband Terry Holland; niece, Kate Baynard and husband Stephen Baynard; niece, Ann-Michael Holland; niece, Lee Ann DeForest; nephew, Daniel DeForest and wife Andrea DeForest.
A memorial service will be conducted at Redeemer Lutheran Church located at 9400 Redbridge Road, N. Chesterfield, VA, 23236 on March 14th, 2015 at 10:00 am. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for the benefit of Veterans may be made to: Virginia’s Wounded Warriors Program, 900 E. Main Street, 6th Floor West Wing, Richmond, VA 23219 or to one’s preferred charity.
