Margaret "Peggy" M. Hanifer, age 60, of North Chesterfield, Virginia passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 22, 1963, to the late James and Betty Hanifer.
She is survived by her siblings, James M. Hanifer (Laurie), Thomas J. Hanifer (Stacey), Mary Beth Hanifer, Patricia A. Green (Josh); nieces and nephews, Crystal L. Lambert (Jeremy), Robert M. Hanifer (Renee), David E. Hanifer, Caden D. Green; great-nieces and nephews, Charlotte and Annabelle Lambert, Gabriel and Alexis Hanifer, Aurelia Hanifer; and many other relatives.
Peggy did not let her physical and mental disabilities stand in the way of her joy. Instead, she and her loved ones thought outside the box so she could lead the most fulfilling life possible. Her joy came from the unconditional love she received from her parents Jim and Betty who fiercely advocated for her.
Peggy had a remarkable ability to see the world through the innocent eyes of a child. She found pleasure in the simplest of things: going on car rides with her dad to McDonald's or eagerly opening the birthday and Christmas presents her mom meticulously selected and wrapped for her. The magic of Disney, especially Mickey and Minnie Mouse, held a special place in Peggy’s heart. She had a passion for being stylish and loved browsing through magazines or shopping for clothes, jewelry, sunglasses, and various other accessories
Peggy was so loved by her family and friends who are saddened by her passing; however, they are comforted knowing she was reunited with her Mom and Dad on her 60th birthday. Oh, what a joyful celebration it must have been!
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 29 from 5-7pm at Woody Funeral Home - Huguenot Chapel. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1pm on Friday, June 30 at Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Dr. Richmond VA 23236. Interment will be private.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Peggy's group home and day support program through Chesterfield County, the medical staff at St. Francis Hospital, and the Bon Secours Community Hospice House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Bon Secours Community Hospice House or the Church of the Epiphany.
