Nécrologie de Milton Lavonne Goodman
Milton L. Goodman, former resident of Oakwoods Subdivision in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2019 at the Salisbury Cottages Memory Care in Midlothian, VA. He was born in Cimarron KS to Grace and Warren Goodman, in August 1926. He enlisted in the military, serving in Greensboro, NC, Italy, Greece, Germany and returned home with an honorable discharge in 1947. When he enlisted, he hoped to be part of the Air Cadet Program and fly for the military. However, the Program was filled and the war was soon over. When he returned home from the military, he began his further education at Wichita State University, graduating with a BA in 1950. He then applied to the Federal Gov’t for a job as a Civil Service Commission security investigator. He also fulfilled his lifetime dream of becoming a pilot. He became a pilot in General Aviation, owning his own plane and flying for many years, even after moving to NC. In 1972, under Jimmy Carter’s Administration, he became a charter member of the Federal Senior Executive Service. While employed with the Federal Gov’t, he attended Syracuse University in NY where he received a Masters of Public Administration. He retired from the Federal Gov’t in 1984, after 36 years of service which also included his military years. In 1995 Milton married Jewell Goodman and they retired and moved to Pisgah Forest, NC, an area Milton loved on sight. They lived near Asheville, NC for 20 years and loved each year there. In 2015, they moved to Midlothian to be near Jewell’s daughter. They have thoroughly enjoyed living in this area. He is survived by his beloved wife Jewell; two children, Dr. Malin Pereira of Charlotte, NC, and Grant Goodman, of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by three grandsons, Cameron Goodman Walther, Blake Ernest Pereira and Julian Mandela Pereira. Survivors also include Jewell’s two children: Angela Johnson of Midlothian, VA and Jeffrey Goodman of Waco, TX. A huge thank you to the Administrative and Nursing Staff at the Cottages of Salisbury. Everyone there showed much love and compassion to Milton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Milton’s name at www.Alz.org.
