Paul David Archibald, 82, of Midlothian, VA., Our beloved Father and “Papa”, gracefully and peacefully left his earthly body on Sunday, July 17th, 2022. His last hours were spent surrounded in love by his most devoted wife of 59 years, JoAnn Doran Archibald, 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild—all having a chance to tearfully share their love, thanks and prayer together—with the highlight being his last serenade to us all from his hospital bed with truly beautiful versions of “Ave Maria” and “Danny Boy”—two of his favorite songs.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Paul was the smiling and energetic 3rd of 10 children to Raymond and Vivien Archibald. His childhood was cut tragically short after the death of his mother (during childbirth) when he was in the 8th grade. Largely on his own from that time on, he spent time in the seminary before finishing high school at Purcell in Cincinnati and then serving in the USAF. After settling down with the love of his life, JoAnn, they were blessed with 4 children: Donna Archibald Catterton (Rick), David Paul Archibald (Hilary), beloved son, Timothy Paul Archibald (deceased 1986) and Lora Archibald Humphreys (Stephen). After a brief move to Celina, OH in 1970, the family spent many years living happily in Allentown, PA before permanently settling in their adopted home of Midlothian, VA in 1982.
Paul had a zest for life and a smile for everyone he met. He was an Executive and Life Underwriter (CLU and FLMI) with various Life Insurance companies during his career and co-founder of Archibald Insurance with his son, David. He also was the founder and operator of Lost Life Insurance Finders (LLife). In retirement, he was always working on a project or busy with his passion (singing) at St. Edward’s Church and The Virginians Barbershop Chorus. But his greatest joy was his grandchildren: Alix, Nicholas, Julie and Tony Cox, Avery and John Archibald, Kendall and Camryn Humphreys and one great-grandson, Preston Parker.
A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 25,2022 at St. Edward’s Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Rd N. Chesterfield, VA. A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm -1:00 pm followed by a service 1:00 pm - 2:00pm and a reception to follow at the Church. All who are ready and willing to help SING Paul to his heavenly reward are most welcome!
