Peggy Prestwood Eagle

Peggy Marie Prestwood Eagle passed away peacefully at home on January 16, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Ronald James Eagle, Jr, as well as her siblings, Ruth Lynch, Jane Slater, Stacy Oliver Prestwood, and Linda Smith.

She is survived by her daughters Rebecca Eagle West, Traci Caroline Eagle (Deborah Benson), Sherrial Haley West, and granddaughter Jodi West White (Scott), all of Midlothian; and great-granddaughters Lauren Rebecca White of Richmond, and Caroline Preston White of Crested Butte, CO. She is also survived by her brothers Bob Prestwood (Annamarie) of Fayetteville, NC and Larry Prestwood (Gaynelle) of Wilmington, NC, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Peggy was born in Winston-Salem, NC to Oliver Stacey and Alphia Stallings Prestwood on October 16, 1931. She was devoted to her family, and spent 20 years caring for Jim at home after a debilitating illness. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and beloved furbabies. Peggy was a fabulous cook and baker, and a gifted seamstress, who also loved to embroider. She was a student of history and political science, and kept abreast of current events until her last day. She was a devout Christian who loved her Lord with all her heart, and a member of Bon Air Christian Church. Peggy believed in religious justice, with Matthew 25:31-46 being especially meaningful to her and how she lived her life.

The family will receive friends from 5PM-7PM on Friday, January 23 at the Woody Funeral Home – Huguenot Chapel.

A graveside burial service will take place on Saturday, January 24 at 1PM at Oleander Memorial Gardens in Wilmington, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your local animal shelter.

The family would like to thank Charles Brehmer, MD and his wife Mary, RN for their years of dedicated care, love, and support to every member of the family, particularly to Peggy and Jim. They prove that angels do walk among us on this Earth.
