Robert (Bob) George Mikelson, 72, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Mikelson, his mother, Helen Mikelson, his other mother, Dorothea Cole Mikelson, and his brothers Frederick Cole (Susan) and Bradford Cole. He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Lee, his son, Niklas Mikelson (Meagan), his sisters, Donna Mikelson, Virginia Cole Taylor (Wayne), Karen Cole Sovak, his brother Star Cole, three grandchildren, Kai, Hannah, and Zachary, his cat Kasey, his in-laws, Patrick and Gail Wulf and Michael and Sylvia Wulf, and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Born in Niskayuna, New York, Bob fatefully made his way to Virginia in the mid-70s, where he met his wife to be and settled down to make a home. Bob was an avid boater and gardener, with a kind and caring heart. He grew blueberries, tart cherries, and raspberries along with vegetables, herbs, and flowers, filling his family home with roses and his beautiful greenhouse orchids. Every day, he fed the birds and the squirrels, while he dreamed up new ideas to entertain his grandchildren at their next visit. Bob delivered meals to people who were home-bound for 18 years, planted many, many trees, and was described by his neighbor and good buddy as “never saying a disparaging word about anyone”. Bob was a loving father, grandfather, and husband and a faithful friend. He lived his life well, with love and respect for all, and fixed computers, too.
In the summer, when the blueberries and cherries are ready to be picked, Bob’s family and friends will fill their baskets and make pies and muffins and celebrate his life.
