Rosetta “Rose” Stecky passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, at the age of 88, following an unexpected illness. She is now reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, Michael Stecky, parents Giuseppe and Rosa Gozzi, sister Angelina “Anne” (Sam) Gerolamo, and brothers Mario Gozzi, Jerome “Jimmy” Gozzi, and Rocco Gozzi. She is survived by daughter Christina Stecky, brother John (Josephine) Gozzi, sister-in-law Maria (Mario) Gozzi, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Rose’s parents and three older siblings immigrated from Calabria, Italy to Queens, New York. She was born on May 2, 1937 in Long Island City and grew up in a close‑knit Italian family. She cherished her childhood in Queens and remained devoted to family throughout her life.
Rose met her husband, Michael, at work and they married in 1971. They made their home in Levittown, New York, where they welcomed their beloved daughter, Christina, in 1974. A woman of deep Catholic faith and devoted mother, Rose was known for her kindness, generosity, compassion, and constant support of those around her.
The family moved to Midlothian, Virginia, in 1995, a place where Rose’s generous spirit continued to flourish. She faithfully lived out her calling to serve others, volunteering for over 20 years at Johnston‑Willis Hospital.
She worked at Ukrops/Martins bakery until her retirement, forming friendships she deeply cherished. The highlight of her day was enjoying lunch at Perk! with the many friends she made there. Above all, Rose treasured time with her daughter, going to the Nutcracker ballet, Virginia Beach, and trips abroad. Family was always at the center of Rose’s life.
