

Ruby Avinia King Rogers, age 90, passed from this life to the arms of her Lord on July 25, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Arthur Rogers, her daughter the Rev. Carol Rogers Thornton, her parents, Tom and Susan King: her brothers Ken, Tom and Frank King. Mrs. Rogers remained a citizen of Great Britain, even after her marriage to her beloved American G.I., and her subsequent 60-plus yeas of living in Richmond, VA. She served proudly in the Auxillary Territorial Service (ATS) of Great Britain During World War II; and later, worked for many years at the State Corporation Commission. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Rogers Gauthier of Richmond; a son-in-law, the Rev. James W. Thornton, Sr., of Louisa, VA, three much-loved grand-children, James W. Thornton, Jr., Julie Thornton Hull, and Laura Gauthier Gray; by five adored great-grandchildren, Delaney, Macauley and Zachary Thornton; and Sarah and Rachel Hull; and Jacob Paul Gray (due on Aug. 29, 2011) and by one precious sister, Pearl King Woodham of Stowe Longa, England. Funeral Services will be held on July 29, 2011 at Christ Ascension Episcopal Church at 11am. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at 10am. The Rev. David Keill will be officiating. We miss you, Mom, but know you are now dancing in the arms of your long-missed knight who appeared back in 1944, wearing a U. S. Army Air Corps uniform. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Christ Ascension Episcopal Church,1704 West Laburnum Ave., Richmond VA, 23237 or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
