Ruth Mary Lyman

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Major Lauren Andrew Lyman, USA, Retired; her parents Ida Losee and Edward Velie and her five older siblings of Hyde Park, New York. She is survived by daughters Barbara Ruth Lindsay and husband Bill of Flower Mound, Texas; Millie Lyman Hewett and husband Davis of Midlothian, Virginia; grandchildren, Bill Lindsay and wife Jamie of Corinth, Texas, Mary Lindsay of Lewisville, Texas, Lauren "Davis" Hewett of Richmond, Virginia and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Emma Lindsay.

After graduation from Staatsburg High School and the Poughkeepsie Business Institute, Ruth played professional girls A.A.A. basketball for four years until her marriage and move to Washington, D.C. This started her new career as an Army wife, which she loved. After retiring from "military service", the family relocated to Virginia Beach, Virginia. Ruth was passionate about life, faith, family and friends and especially Redskins football.

The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 12, 2014 at Salisbury Presbyterian Church. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater Richmond Chapter, 4600 Cox Road, Suite 130, Richmond, Virginia or a charity of your choice.
