Shirley Woodson

She was born on April 19, 1939, in Richmond, VA, to Beverly and Marie Williams.

Shirley married her lifelong sweetheart, Harvey W. Woodson, on May 11, 1962; he preceded her in death on April 16, 2025. She spent nearly all her adult years in Chesterfield County, VA. Devoted as a homemaker, spouse, and mother, Shirley cherished her family and was a central figure in her neighborhood, helping bring people together. She was known for always expressing her thoughts openly, no matter who she was speaking to. In her later years, Shirley delighted in candy and sweet tea, often enjoying these treats while watching classic films—especially Westerns—and listening to Rock’n’roll oldies from artists like Elvis, Fats Domino, and Chubby Checker.

Survived by her son, Harrell (John Townsley) Woodson of Houston, TX and Gregory (Barbara) Woodson of Rockford, IL; and grandchildren, Eric and Jacob Woodson. Also predeceased by her parents; and many siblings.

The family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice and the Grand Victorian of Rockford Staff for their loving care of Shirley for the past ten months.
