

THORPE, Warren James, 85, of Littleton, N.C., died February 20, 2012. He was born on July 24, 1926, in Jersey City, N.J. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Louise C. Thorpe; daughters, Charlotte Thorpe Lamp of Wells, Minn., Sally Thorpe Yokiel (Chuck) of Wells, Minn., and Ellen Thorpe Kilby (Pete), of Midlothian, Va.; grandsons, Glenn Brian Lamp (Kristel) of Richmond, Va., Alan Daniel Yokiel of Wells, Minn., and Darren Scott Kilby of Midlothian, Va.; granddaughter, Molly Ann Yokiel of Wells, Minn; step-granddaughter, Jordan Rhodes Kilby of Missoula, Mont.; step-grandson, Clayton Tyler Kilby (Jessica) of Richmond, Va.; sister, Eleanor Thorpe Wolke (Otto) of Danville, Pa.; nieces, Beth Eleanor Robinson (Gary) of Monroe N.Y. and Louise Margaret Belensz (Alan) of Ballston Lake, N.Y.; nephews, Alan Edward Wolke (Nancy) of Bound Brook, N.J. and Paul Otto Wolke (Kim) of Washington, N.J. Mr. Thorpe served two years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Stevens Institute of Technology earning a degree in mechanical engineering and had a 30 year career with Reynolds Metals Company. He was also an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed his 32 year retirement while living at Lake Gaston, N.C. His life centered on love of family, his church and his career. A celebration of Warren’s life will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Lakeside Lutheran Church.
