

September 9, 1924 – Aug. 17, 2013 Midwest City, Oklahoma Birt “Earl” Nelson went to be with his Lord at 88 years of age on August 17, 2013. Earl was born September 9, 1924, in Haskell, OK. to Phillip Lorenz Nelson and Venetia Jane Allen as the 9th child of 10 children. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J.H. Nelson and Phillip Lorenz Nelson Jr.; six sisters, Veadus Minnie Milburn Nelson, Dorothy Ann Nelson, Baby Nelson, Mildred Marie Hobbs, Edith Genevia Sims, Ruby Irene Brazier; his son Douglas Dale Nelson; his grandson Vance E. Nelson; and his wife Norma Jean Nelson. He is survived by; his sons, Birt Earl Nelson Jr., Roy Dwayne Nelson, Phillip Henry Allen Jr., Harvey Lynn Allen; his daughters Betty Jane Jeans, Roberta Ann Frost, Regenia Kay Simpson, Elizabeth Annette Roman; and fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great, great grandchild. He also leaves one sister, Ella Kathryn Baier; along with many nephews, nieces and cousins. Earl spent the early years of his life in the Haskell Oklahoma farming with his family. After High School, Earl served his country with honor in the United States Navy during WWII where he served three tours on the USS Lexington. He met Norma Jean Allen in Midwest City, and they started their life together. Earl was the best mechanic around Oklahoma City and could fix just about anything. He worked for the Chrysler Corporation for several decades. Earl and Norma Jean began traveling around the country and enjoyed seeing the sights and visiting friends and family. Earl was a good husband, loving father and the best popo ever. Earl loved spending time taking care of his home; and watching sports, particularly OU/OSU football and OKC Thunder. He also enjoyed gardening and going to Lake Eufaula. He will be greatly missed by all. The family would like to thank Hospice Quality Care of Midwest City for sending us our own angel, who took such good care of Earl and who is a true blessing to our family. Viewing will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Paylor Family Funeral Care at 412 N. Air Depot Blvd. in Midwest City. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Paylor Family Funeral Care. Interment will be at Sunny Lane Cemetery in Del City, Oklahoma.
