Ann A. Wood (Dolores Ann Aylett Wood) passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 in Bountiful, Utah. She was the daughter of Kelvin William Aylett and Dolores Lillian Reading. She was born September 19, 1933.
She graduated from Jordan High School in 1951 and from the University of Utah in 1955 with a BS in Elementary Education. While attending the University, she met and married Ray H. Wood in the Logan temple on August 8, 1955. Their love of music brought them together. While Ray finished law school, Ann taught school, providing support for the family and bringing their first twin daughters into the world. She then settled into doing that which was her greatest talent and skill, raising a family of four girls and two boys, and being an outstanding homemaker. As a mother, she taught her children the skills and attributes they needed to know and grow up in righteousness and to be responsible children of our Father in Heaven.
Ray and Ann lived for their family. Their home was a sanctuary of safety from the world and a refuge where love and trust existed. Music, reading service to others and the good things of life were taught in refined and dignified ways. Family prayers, scripture study, regular family home evenings, sabbath day "Patriarchal Hours", Saturday yard work and home duties were routinely done together including even shopping as a family, followed by a barbecue and a swim in the pool. Family reunions held later for many years included Lake Tahoe, Sun Valley, Hawaii, scenic parks, a cruise to Europe, and even a foray to an African game park, were happy destinations. All were given the opportunity to serve missions and attend college. Families are forever!
She was an accomplished pianist, organist, and music leader. Everywhere she went, she organized youth and children's choirs. While serving in South Africa with her husband, she initiated a series of training classes in keyboard playing and music directing within wards and branches of the local African members who otherwise had no training.
Ann has served in many church service capacities including: President and counselor of ward and stake Primary presidencies, Relief Society and Young Women presidencies, a teacher in many auxiliary organizations, hostess at the Church Office Building, and on the General Primary Board for five years where she helped compile the Children's Hymn Book. She also served as a docent from the Utah Symphony Guild and as a volunteer worker at the Primary Children's Hospital. She especially liked the oncology department. She also managed to teach piano lessons to a host of young people wherever she went. She was an outstanding teacher in almost any subject and a beautiful, classically trained pianist.
She is predeceased by her husband Ray and is survived by her children: Laurie Ann (Mark) Ruben, Las Vegas NV, Lizabeth (Charles) Walton, Campbell CA, Lisa Wood,SLC UT, Heather Lynne (Lance) Remund, Layton UT. Ray G. Wood, Irving TX, Bradley Paul (Sharee) Wood, Peachtree City GA. She has fourteen grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held and interment will be at the Wasatch Lawns Memorial Park.
We love you Mom, you will be missed!
